How Acta Works

Acta is a personal reading delivery service. At the direction of individual users, Acta retrieves publicly accessible articles and publications from the web and delivers them to the user's registered e-ink reading device in a clean, reformatted layout — solely for that user's personal, non-commercial reading.

Acta functions similarly to a personal clipping service or a user's own browser cache: content is retrieved on demand, reformatted for readability, and transmitted to a single user's device. Content is not stored long-term, not made available to other users, and not republished or redistributed.

Publishers who wish to opt out of having their content retrieved by Acta may do so via our Publisher Opt-Out page. Opt-outs are implemented immediately upon receipt.

User Responsibility

Users of Acta are responsible for ensuring that their use of the Service with respect to any particular content is consistent with applicable copyright law and the terms of service of the websites from which content is retrieved. Acta does not authorize users to circumvent paywalls, authentication systems, or other access controls. The Service is intended only for personal use with content users have the right to access.

DMCA Takedown Procedure

If you believe that content retrieved or delivered through Acta infringes your copyright, please submit a notice using the form below. A valid notice must include all of the following:

1. A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner
2. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed, or if multiple works are covered by a single notification, a representative list of such works
3. Identification of the material claimed to be infringing, including the URL or other sufficient information to allow Acta to locate the material
4. Your contact information: name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address
5. A statement that you have a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law
6. A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notification is accurate and that you are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner

Counter-Notification Procedure

If you believe that material you submitted to be delivered via Acta was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification, you may submit a counter-notification via our Contact page, including:

1. Your physical or electronic signature
2. Identification of the material that has been removed and the location at which the material appeared before it was removed
3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief that the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification
4. Your name, address, telephone number, and email address, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the judicial district in which your address is located

Repeat Infringers

It is Acta's policy to terminate, in appropriate circumstances and at our sole discretion, the accounts of users who are found to be repeat infringers of copyright or other intellectual property rights of others.

Publisher Opt-Out

Publishers who do not wish for their content to be retrieved by Acta may submit an opt-out request on our Publishers page. Opt-outs result in all content from the specified domain being blocked for all Acta users, removal of any stored content from that source, and prevention of future retrieval. We honor these requests promptly.
